Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stirred reactions on social media after suggesting that Nigerian indigenous languages offer little value.
The former P-Square member made the remark after celebrating his children’s fluency in French while on vacation in Paris, France.
Sharing his thoughts on X, the singer wrote, “Still in Paris! Watching my kids speak French so effortlessly makes me think… maybe it’s time to own a crib here in Paris.”

His post prompted a fan to ask, “Hope they can speak Igbo, too?” In response, Mr P replied, “And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”
The comment quickly generated criticism online, with many users accusing the singer of downplaying the importance of Nigerian languages despite frequently incorporating Igbo, Yoruba and other indigenous languages into his music.
Critics also pointed out that those languages have contributed significantly to the commercial success and broad appeal of his songs.
